Set in the archipelago of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka – on the island of Kanifinholu and 20 kms from the capital, Male.
The Maldives are blessed with a perfect temperature range of 25°C to 31°C year round.
High Season: December to April is characterised by sunny weather, clear skies, low humidity and amazing water clarity.
Low: May to November is a wetter season, sometimes cloudy skies, occasional winds and higher humidity levels.
The surf season is between February and November, with it’s peak for most areas being between March and August. Surfing is easily accessible in Kani. The nearest spot is known as Kani Corner or Ninjas, and is directly behind the service island next to Club Med. From the Club Med village it is about a 20m paddle across a small channel to the service island and from there about 100m walk, and the break is right there.
The wave itself is a right hand reef / point break, and it is very consistent from May to November. Average wave height is about 2 - 6 feet. It is recommended to wear foot protection as there is sharp coral and some seas urchins, as is the case with many reef breaks. Although this wave does not get as much press as some of the surrounding breaks, it is definitely a quality fun wave.
Club Med does not provide official surfing trips to other surf breaks, however there is a reliable local from the neighbouring island who offers boat rides.
