The Istana sits upon 5,200sqm of prime, cliff top land, 100m above the rolling surf of the Indian Ocean on the south-western tip of the Island of Bali, 10 minutes of walking distance from Uluwatu beach. This 5-suite estate overlooks white sand beaches and a lagoon abundant with sea life and coral, and in the evenings, magical sunsets.
The breaks in the surrounding sea are rated the fifth best in the world. When the trade winds blow, a massive swell crashes onto the surrounding reef, crafting waves that attract worldwide surfing attention.
Set back 40 metres from the cliff face, The Istana is a gated property comprising two swimming pools, a relaxation bale, the main house, the self-contained, master suite and a children’s wing. The main house has a living room, dining room, an audio-video room and four identical bedroom suites. The overall style is a mix of modern architecture and traditional Indonesian detailing. The artwork represents a mixture of primitive art and antiques originating from Indonesia, keeping with the aura of tradition and style.
The Istana is located on south-westerly tip of the beautiful area known as The Bukit – a limestone plateau rising sharply from the sea, fringed by steep cliffs and some of the most beautiful beaches in Bali. Characterised by wide open spaces and clear blue skies, the turquoise waters are the playground of migrating whales. A tropical, equatorial climate means year-round balmy temperatures and, even in the rainy season, The Bukit – which is much drier than the rest of the island – is a reliable sun-trap.
The Istana is only 30 minutes drive from Bali’s International Airport and about 45 minutes drive from the endless shopping, vibrant nightlife and international restaurants of Kuta and Seminyak. The world-class Bali Golf and Country Club in Nusa Dua is only 15 minutes away by car, and Ubud – Bali’s centre for fine arts and cultural performances – is just 90 minutes away.

Set back 40m from the cliff face, The Istana comprises two swimming pools, a relaxation bale, the main house, the self-contained master suite, and a children’s wing located above the staff service area.
The main house includes a living room, dining room, an audio-video room and four identical bedroom suites. Stretching 32 metres along the front of the estate, the Istana's main swimming pool has a breathtaking infinity edge on the ocean side. Spectacularly positioned on the cliff top with breathtaking views of the ocean, the large relaxation balé incorporates a lounging area, a bar, bbq and a sunken tatami table with cushioned seating for twelve.The Children’s Wing features a lounge area complete with sofas, a pool table, video game corner (with both Wii and PS3 machines), TV/DVD and Bose sound system. There are three other smaller rooms (and bathrooms), one of which has four bunk beds for children. One room with 2 small beds for 2 more children or domestic staff (who may be travelling with guests or locally hired and given overnight charges), and another room which can be arranged to host children's cots.
The Master Bedroom is located within a self-contained guesthouse, separate from the main building, and set back so as to offer complete privacy. It has its own entrance way, parking facilities, and private L-shaped 8 x 4 metre swimming pool. There is also a pool shower, sunloungers and umbrella. The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed complete with a padded headboard. At the base of the bed, a flat screen TV with DVD is hidden within a rising cabinet that appears at the press of a button. Additionally, a large daybed affords a stunning view of the ocean.
Each of the 4 matching suites in the main house are comprised of a bedroom with double beds,a spacious walk-in closet, and indoor and outdoor Bali-style bathrooms. All of the bedrooms are walled on two sides by folding glass doors which open up to the private gardens.

- Wining & DiningThe Istana boasts a dining service better than most restaurants, and the menu features a wonderful array of dishes. Extensive Western dining options are available, as well as some local Balinese dishes for a unique cultural experience.A number of special lunch and dinner menus are offered, which require a day’s notice to the chef in order to make arrangements. Please remember while the villa’s facilities and staff capabilities are of the highest quality, the villa’s kitchen cannot maintain the same inventory as a restaurant, thus pre-ordering is a key component of the villa’s food service.Should you have a request for a dish not on the menu, or a special dietary requirement, please feel free to ask the chef, who will strive to comply with all of your wishes. Special items that need to be purchased and billed to you at cost plus 30% (the Istana Team will present receipts as proof of purchase and add the total of cost + 30% to your final bill).
The Istana has a stock of soft drinks, beers, spirits, wines and champagnes. All beverages are charged per drink that you order, except for wine which is charged per bottle.
Please also ask the staff if you have any special beverage orders and they will accommodate your needs. Special items that need to be purchased separately will be purchased and billed to you at cost plus 30%.
For your convenience, as with all charges, food & beverage charges will be payable in total upon checkout.
EventsThe Istana’s extensive grounds, and facilities, run by a professional hospitality team results in a venue in Bali, that is both exciting and exclusive.In the past the Istana has hosted extensive dinner parties (visualize a long table dressed in the finest linen on the upper lawn long seating 40 people), birthday celebrations where a hundred guests have flown in from around the world to surprise their friend, promotional launches, etc.The villa’s professional and versatile food and beverage team can assist with smaller events and the island of Bali boasts an extensive event industry easily capable of providing anything from caterers, helicopters, and fire dancers to professional DJs and sound equipment rental that can be called upon to service any form of event.Weddings are a big favorite at the villa.
