- Description
- For the beginner, intermediate and advanced surfer alike, they have the know-how and the facilities to make your trip one in a million. Combined with individual accommodation right on the beach, their small size means they can adapt to your needs and desires, providing a special and unique experience. Groups can book out the whole place, having a real holiday home-from-home. Forget small rooms and dodgy showers, the cabanas are spacious, cool, beautiful and right opposite the surf.
They are located in a large bay that picks up most swell directions. The bay has numerous beach breaks so there is no danger from rocks, reef or crowds. This also means it is safe for swimming and for younger guests. With tropical sea temperatures of around 26 degrees Celsius, there is no need for a wetsuit here! There is an offshore reef within the bay that can be reached by a boat for empty waves. They really know the local conditions and can help you go to the best spots at the best time, by boat or road. They are surrounded by a wealth of different breaks from fast, hollow reefs to more mellow rides perfect for improving your technique, all within easy reach using one of their local guides if required.
There is an onsite surf shop, selling wax, leashes, fins, sunscreen, tail pads, grubscrews etc and also do board repairs. This is the only surf shop in the south after Hikkaduwa. For the non-surfers or for those who want to mix surfing with other activities, stay on a B&B basis. Add on tuition or indulge in some cooking lessons, project work, boat tour or excursions to the amazing sights to be found in their region (see Activities below).
The local town offers lots of things to see and do; visit the food markets and see local craftspeople making jewellery and lace. Just outside the village you can explore paddy lands, temples and coconut groves, go diving or simply explore their amazing coastline.
The site is eco-friendly and at least 10% of the profits each month go to their tsunami regeneration projects. They believe their business can help others and you can help too! - Accommodation
- The beautiful cabanas are handcrafted by the local carpenters made with sustainable mango wood. Each cabana has something very special about it. Sympathetically designed to make the most of sea breezes, all have traditional carvings and huge shuttered front walls to allow constant air flow. Rooms are en-suite and 3 of the 4 have open-air bathrooms for showers under the stars. Traditional hot water hand showers can be easily arranged. All have a private balcony or seating area and one has its own separate living area. Their cabanas are extremely spacious, giving you plenty of room to relax. They all have generous 6ft wide four-poster beds; however, single beds can easily be added for sharers or to make a triple/family room. They have 4 cabanas and each is a little different, with names to relect there style.1) Berrybush – a 2 storey cabana, with upstairs bedroom, downstairs open air double shower and downstairs sitting room with 2 daybeds. This may be a good option for the parents as it is nice for groups, especially with children to have their own living space. The bathroom being downstairs may be a consideration however.2) Chadanna – it is directly in front of Berrybush and has an open air single shower, huge balcony and is raised off the floor on stilts by a metre, so only a small staircase.3) The Light House – it is to the right of Berrybush (when looking towards the sea). It has an enclosed double shower room. It has no stairs as it is ground floor but has a pavement area outside with chairs.4) Shantha – this is a second floor cabana with huge open air double shower room, enjoying the best views. All the rooms are doubles but they can arrange a single bed to be put in any of them if the kids do not want to share a double (they are generous 6ft beds though so there is plenty of room, high quality mattresses too). They have access to their residents mini kitchen with fridge and tea/coffee making facilities (they supply all equipment and a supply of tea/coffee as a welcome, further supplies to be bought by guests).Food and drinkThey serve fresh local produce with an emphasis on authentic Sri Lankan dishes, fresh fish BBQ's and occasional western treats! They serve a delicious breakfast of fresh fruits, roti bread, string hoppers, dahl and eggs served with tea and fruit juice, served to your balcony or bedroom if preferred. At lunchtime, a traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry is seved, with a variety of curry dishes, salads and sambols. Western dishes also available on request. For dinner there always is a variety of fresh local produce.

Explore
The rest of the southern region is well within reach for the next step of your journey, a short excursion or even day trips. Apart from hundreds of kilometres of beautiful palm-fringed beaches there is a wealth of places to visit, explore and discover. The Sinharaja, Sri Lanka's tropical rain forest, is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and is one of the few virgin forests left in the world. Streams, springs, rivers, waterfalls, leopard, monkeys, butterflies and moths, rare trees, valuable shrubs and medicinal herbs are all found within its green canopy. Trekking provides nature lovers with a never to be forgotten experience of sights and sounds. Yala National Park in the south-east hosts a range of ecosystems, from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. The park is best known for its huge variety of wild animals and the conservation of Sri Lankan Elephants and aquatic birds. Sri Lanka is the cradle of the Buddhist faith and a visit to the sacred Adam's Peak is an unforgettable spiritual experience.
Wherever you go in Sri Lanka, you will be welcomed by some of the friendliest people in the world. Another great thing about a trip here is that it holds so much variety in such a small island. Having 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites, from sacred cities, palaces and cliff-top citadels to colonial strongholds, tea hills, waterfalls, white water rafting, mountain biking and further north kite-surfing, there truly is something for everyone. The east coast also boasts world famous surf spot Arugum Bay and the northeast of the island is virgin territory for the more adventurous traveller. After years of civil war a new peaceful era has reigned since 2009 so there has never been a better time to visit this island, rich in natural beauty and cultural splendours.
