It consists of 32 spacious rooms that are located in small villas located on the 4-acre estate, overlooking the beach - one mile of golden sand where the only footprints will be yours. The accommodation is stylish - it features open-air marble bathrooms and private patios to go with beautiful views. RestaurantTalalla Retreat is passionate about food thanks to the gourmet influence of successful Australian restaurant owner and Talalla founder, Laurie Rose. Sip on a king coconut and enjoy the gentle sea breeze as you savour gourmet Talalla flavours in their stunning open-air restaurant pavilion.
Vibrant tropical fruit, crisp seasonal fresh vegetables and fresh local seafood feature prominently as traditional Sri Lankan delicacies and international favourites. The resort staff will create an outdoor buffet hut from palm fronds, and present an array of exotic dishes in traditional clay pots. Experience fragrant Sri Lankan curries and whole sear fish (Spanish mackerel) BBQ'd on flaming coconut shells.
Much of the resort's herbs and spices are grown organically on the property, while other seasonal ingredients are sourced fresh daily from local markets and fishermen.

Surfing
Thanks to being positioned in the Indian Ocean that is most consistent for swells, the south coast of Sri Lanka is considered to be one of the best surf destinations on the planet. Talalla Retreat is a perfect base to explore abundant surf breaks along Sri Lanka's south coast - from mellow beachies for beginners to massive reef breaks for the advanced... let their resident surf guide acquaint you with what the area has to offer.
The peak surfing season for Sri Lanka's west/ south coast runs from November through to April. This is considered the high season for this region of Sri Lanka, when winds are offshore, swells are consistent and rain is at a minimum. This is undoubtedly the ultimate time of year to surf the southern region. However, when the SE swells hit during the main season, which is from April through to November there is still plenty of secret, wind-protected beaches which are going off during this period.
Although most surfers visit Sri Lanka for a surfing holiday on the east coast staying near the world class break Arugam Bay, which can get crowded during the peak season of the east coast, epic undiscovered beaches and waves can still be discovered on the southern tip of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's southern coast line naturally offers all different kind of waves. Beginners can enjoy their first surf lessons at beautiful sandy beaches catching the white wash near the shore. Advanced surfers will also enjoy beach breaks as they increase in size. Some of the more advanced surfers might want to challenge themselves at some of the reef breaks that can be found on the southern tip of Sri Lanka. Some of the Australians who came to Sri Lanka to invest in Talalla helped to build the place a few years ago and discovered this absolute world class surf spot on this beautiful tropical island. The wave is an A-Frame and it works best from the end of April through to September. When the conditions are right the wave reaches 6-8+ feet. In these conditions, up to 8 good turns are possible on this massive wave.Other activities
- Yoga - Daily yoga sessions will be performed in their yoga shala twice a day (every morning and evening), taught by highly esteemed international teachers. They also offer 2 in-house retreats every month (except December and January where there is just 1) for a more intensive and transformational experience. Private classes as well as personalised retreats may be arranged on request.
- Volleyball - In between its lush, palm tree planted garden, Talalla has volleyball net where guests, young and old might want to have a little volleyball competition.
- Snorkelling - Snorkel equipment can be hired for $5US at the resort. The reef on the right side of Talalla Beach has a lot of diverse and colorful fish.
- Badminton & Ultimate Frisbee - equipment is available in the resort restaurant.
Places to see around Talalla Retreat

In both of these reserves you will find the extraordinary abundance of flora and fauna that Sri Lanka has to offer. Leopards and elephants are not uncommon.
