Teahupoo Blackwater Lodge

The Blackwater Lodge at Teahupoo is for anyone looking for an authentic getaway near one of the worlds most dynamic waves, but more importantly - in an authentic Tahitian village with great restaurants, activities and real local style. Teahupoo is a good 2 hour drive from Papeete; it is a laid back, beautiful town, very reminiscent of Hawaii 30 years ago. It’s a great destination and offers plenty of diverse activities beyond surfing. All of this combines to make a great destination for families as well. We recommend renting a car at the airport as taxi transfers cost close to $200 USD each way. Depending on availability a Blackwater representative may be available for lower cost transfers.

Teahupoo - often called the “heaviest wave in the world” needs no introduction to surfers. It is a 2 hour drive from the capital, Papeete and is in a laid back, beautiful area, reminiscent of Hawaii 30 years ago.

Tahiti surfing is highly acclaimed among international surfers and there are several  excellent breaks on Tahiti, near Teahupoo; off the north coast at Matavai Point and Point Venus;  and the south coast at Papara and Fishermans Point. There are several surf schools on the island and it is also possible to rent boards from Papeete.

Blackwater Lodge is a 3 unit complex set on the hill overlooking Teahupoo. The main unit in the middle sleeps 4 and is completely designed and constructed using native Tahitian materials and craftsmanship. The smaller units on the left and right house the kitchen and dining area and the other a game and play room. The Lodge can accommodate more than 4 but requires sleeping in pullout beds in the dining wing and play room.

The beach at Teahupoo is visible from the upper floor and is a short walk from the bure. There are many breaks nearby as well as horseback riding, scuba diving, hiking and other activities. We are offering as add on options, surf guides with taxi boats, fishing and full meal plans including breakfast, and dinner.

The trip was awesome. Tahiti is such a stunning place. Chris and Johnny were more than hospitable and were a load of fun to be around. The food was excellent and I would go back there for sure. Added to which we just so happened to surf Teahupoo with Kelly Slater whilst the girls sat on his Qiksilver boat and filmed it. We got some really good waves. Thanks for everything, Ryan. Best holiday ever. Good weather, Good surf, Good people, Good Food, Good Beer, Good Staff, Good place. Would recommend it to any keen surfer. However at the same time would like it kept a secret. Chris' knowledge of the local reefs and prime conditions for surfing is great, and the fact that we got to surf with Kelly Slater (and girls on his boat) and Shane Dorian was also great. Top time!! Chris does need to sort his drive way out though. He knows it, but it needs to be done, or notification to any one that stays there recommending a 4x4 for access.
