- Description
-
Located on a secluded island approximately 7 minutes from Gizo by boat, the newly opened Sanbis Resort offers a unique experience for those looking to get away from it all. Sitting amidst coastal trees and coconut palms is your Leaf House Villa with its verandah over a tranquil lagoon. Each bungalow has its own private beach, ensuite bathroom with hot water and a stunning view accross the lagoon.
Sanbis Resort is one of a very few exclusive GO ECO Operators in the Asia Pacific Region, offering superb service, whilst having a minimal impact on the surrounding environment. By following environmental guidelines, management have minimized the impact on the delicate aquatic ecosystem whilst contributing to environmental, economic and cultural conservation.
"Sanbis" actually means "sandy beach" in the Solomon Pijin. Enjoy uninterrupted views accross the lagoon with a fantastic reef right at your door step. The number of bungalows has been limited to six to ensure privacy and luxury for guests and limiting resort capacity to 20 guests at any one time.
The resort boasts a gourmet kitchen with a fully stocked bar. The Perfect Wave can put together an all inclusive package so that you can enjoy your stay without ever having to pull out your wallet, including diving, fishing, watersports, food and even beverages ...and if your children need a dedicated "house girl" around the clock we can provide for that too!
You can enjoy snorkeling in front of your private bungalow in 30 degree waters, join activities provided by Solomon Watersport located at the in-house PADI dive centre or simply relax to your heart’s content. The Solomon Islands are as far from the maddening crowd as you can get and Sanbis Resort offers the tranquility that comes with the serene island environment.
The best time for surf is during the cyclone season with the best time to visit is from November through to the end of April when there are N/NW winds. If there is a cyclone somewhere down south towards Australia, the breaks can be fantastic. Outside of this conditions can be favourable but it is best to avoid the SE winds.
- Accommodation
-
The resort comprises of 6 private bungalows, each with it's own private beach. There are 2 bungalows that can sleep up to 5 people and the remaing for 4 bungalows are twin share. Each bungalow has it's own ensuite with hot water and view over the lagoon.

- Activities
- Surf transfers are only offered to in-house guests. The transfers are charged at the cost price of AU$125 for a boat with the driver for the day. The cost of fuel is additional and can be paid direct on the day to the resort. Up to 8 surfers can fit into one boat.
To allow for accidents there are 3 boards ranging from 6 – 7.5 f in case a board gets broken during the trip. Surfers should also consider bringing spare fins, of course wax and maybe a spare leg rope.
Staff member Ravia, who is also a rescue diver, is one of Gizo’s best surfers. He is usually responsible for taking out surfing guests to the breaks. He’s pretty fanatic about it and knows the breaks back to front.
There are three good consistent breaks, Titiana (LH), Paelongge (RH) and Outside Naru (RH)) within close proximity. Titiana is about 13 minutes from Sanbis by boat, Paelongge about 20 minutes and Naru about 7 minutes. There is also a break at Skull Island, near Zipolo Habu – Lola Island (VERY long) but can be unreliable. Skull Island is usually only good if Paelongge and Titiana are huge.
