Open in March 1999, the Tiare Beach Resort is the most recent luxury hotel to be developed in Huahine, the "Garden Island". The resort features garden-, beach-, lagoon- and deep overwater bungalows, all facing west towards the islands of Raiatea and Taha. The main building, which is home to the restaurant and bar, is built over the water to make the most of the breathtaking views of the lagoon.

Huahine's turquoise waters provide the perfect setting to relax and unwind in this tranquil part of French Polynesia. Guests can sunbathe on the white sand beach or lounge beside the free form swimming pool. Outside of surfing, for visitors who are more actively inclined, a variety of activities & excursions are available to choose from - such as island tours, picnic trips, sunset cruises, and snorkeling in some of the most spectacular lagoons this side of paradise. Te Tiare provides complimentary scheduled boat transfers to and from the main town of Fare and local cultural activities are available on site.

Te Tiare is welcoming to families as well as couples. Child-minding and babysitting is available. Kids also stay and eat for free.

Surfing

Huahine is known for good surf and the consistent and perfect shape of the waves. Two of the best breaks are within a 10-minute boat ride from the resort. Te Tiare operates a surf shuttle to the breaks at additional cost. (Boards not supplied, you will need to take your own).

The most well-known waves are at Ava Mo'a Pass, also known as Fare Righ, and at the pass opposite Fitii. In the south, Parea is the place for surfing.

Conditions are good all year, but March through to October is when conditions are most consistent. Waves are frequently about 150 to 450 feet in length, fast and hollow. All the northern sites are easy to get to, but require a paddle of at least 20 minutes. Fitii is a very long, 45-minute paddle without a boat. The bottom is rocky and sharp, and there is a lot of coral on the beaches so it's a good idea to wear booties. Surfers should bring their own boards as there are no rentals on Huahine. The island is becoming more popular, and the locals are justifiably protective. It's very important to become acquainted with the locals and to be friendly and respectful if you want to surf here.

Huahine is rich in living traditions. More has been done on this island to restore the archaeological sites than anywhere else in French Polynesia. The culturally and historically minded will want to take an excursion to the northeast coast village of Maeva, the ancient capital of Huahine. Maeva is a rich and exciting archeological site where the remains of prehistoric villages and ancient stone temples, "Marae", lend clues to a civilization that existed at least 1000 years ago.

Otherwise you can just relax poolside, snorkel in the lagoon or explore the island by outrigger canoe or kayak.I f you feel the need, there is a full-service spa where you can be pampered with island treatments, massage and yoga instructions.

Other Activities

Circle Island & Picnic Cruises - Sailboat or motorized outrigger cruises to explore the island. Snorkel in the island's turquoise lagoon, visit the manta rays and coral gardens. Half-day and full-day excursions with picnic are available.

Private or group BBQ picnics available on motu.  

4x4 Jeep Safari - Discover Huahine's magnificent mountains, historic sites, churches, and temples, tropical valleys, ancient fish traps and sacred eels by Land Rover tour. These half-day excursions allow visitors to learn much about this unspoiled island paradise.

Scuba Diving - All the fauna of the South Pacific is present: rays, sharks, Napoleon fish, tuna, barracuda, jackfish, moray eels, multicolored schools of tropical fish and spectacular scenery for beginners and experienced divers. Dive with experienced guides.

Glass-bottom boat & shark feeding - Unique in the island of Huahine - see sharks and a variety of fish feeding out of the guide's hands.

Jet Skis -  Tour around the island lagoon and explore coral reefs, stop at a "motu", and visit rays and tropical fish.

Horseback riding - Western style, beach/ocean rides.
