The Atlantic coast along the West receives the best swells. The “Silver Coast” of France – joining with Spain in the south has spot after spot after spot. If the swell is good the entire coast goes off. The quality of the waves here is so good due to the funnel shape of the Bay of Biscay - channeling the waves in to the eager surfers. The pick of the waves can be found in and around Hossegor and Biarritz – where many world class surfing events have been held.
It’s 4,000 km of coastline makes Spain a surfers dream location, with waves like Mundaka being a regular feature in the international surfing magazines. And you’ll have heard of Lanzarote which is found to the north of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands - the Hawaii of the Atlantic!
Portugal has a huge variety of waves and swell size and as a result makes an ideal surfing location for surfers of every ability. It picks up north, west and south swells, making surf conditions very consistent.
Morocco is the land of the pointbreak, and the coastline around the Agadir area is riddled with spots. There are empty waves around every corner and during the winter months they are all firing.
The Irish coastline is one of the most prolific and beautiful surfing backdrops in the northern hemisphere and is blessed with a huge variety of quality surf spots. If you are into big wave surfing there are also some spots that will hold up to 20ft! Don't forget to sample the Guiness and the legendary hospitality of the locals.
England receives swell on its entire coastline, thus effectively providing a 360 degree swell angle.
