Kuda Laut is a charter vessel to the Mentawais and is one of the original operators in the area and one of the best value trips going. The Kuda Laut team have been doing charters to the Mentawai's, Telos, Nias and Banyak Islands for 18 seasons - they know how to find the best waves with the least crowds in Sumatra, from the Lagundry Bay in Nias, the Hinakos, to the Bay of Plenty in the Banyaks, the Telos long rights, also the famous waves in the Mentawais, such as Rifles, No Kandui, Ebay, etc in the Playground, to Telescopes, Bintang, HT's, Lances, Maccas, Rags, Thunders, Green Bush, the Hole and much, much more!!!

The new trio of owners - Bryan, Tim and Luke - have a combined 16 years of experience at the top end of Mentawai Surf Charter business
Bryan Jacobs has been first mate on renowned Mentawai charter vessels for the past few seasons and as such has a great knowledge of reading conditions and forecasts to plan an efficient trip without uneccessary and uncomfortable long steams, as well as possessing the skills, boat and safety knowledge to run a smooth charter. He is a young fit fella, who is still as stoked to be up there as you will be. Bryan will be running the boat on rotational basis with Luke McGay who has had 7 years as a captain on the same renowned vessels and is a very experienced and compentent captain.
Tim Everingham is the current food and beverage manager and chef for the Indies Trader fleet and has been in that position for the last 7 years, and as such his standards for food and interior comfort of the punters are second to none. Before that, he was a chef on the Kuda Laut with previous owner Moose so he has many years up there in the islands. He has trained the local chef Anto so you can be sure the food will be very tasty and plentiful as this is a very important part of the experience on a Mentawai trip.
They are a very good team with lots of experience to make the boat a success and secure great surf experience. Through their work history at the high end of the market, they have learnt how a little extra effort, such as taking photos for the guys or offering other activities when the waves are not on can make a great difference to the outcome of a charter. Going on charter with Kuda Laut means that you can go snorkeling and also catch some big delicious fish! They have snorkeling gear, and fishing equipment you can use.

- They specialize in small groups of 6 - 7 surfers. Kuda Laut is a 58-foot wooden motorsailer built from Sumatran iron wood. She has an 80hp engine and travels at 8 knots, also a 12 kva genset giving 220 Volt power. A typical trip will be for 10 days / 11 Nights.Boat Specifications:
- Design: Indonesian registered 58 ft teak construction motor sailer.
- Engine: 80hp Mitsubishi diesel with 8 knot cruising speed.
- Power: 12kVa Onan generator supplying 240v AC and 12v DC.
- Safety Equipment: Garmin GPS, Furuno 16mile Radar, Furuno depth sounder, Fishfinder, SSB and VHS radios, EPIRB, 2 compass, Life Jackets & Safety Rings, Fire Extinguishers, Two anchors, medical and first aid kit.
- Cabins: 8 berths in a large air conditioned dormitory style cabin. Head & Shower, Toilet and outside 'bak mandi' style shower.
- Tender: 4m aluminium runabout with 40 hp outboard.
- Equipment: Snorkeling gear, some rods and plenty of hand fishing lines, stereo, TV & VCD player.
