Surf & Other Activities

Surfing

There are no beach breaks in Moorea but plenty of world class reef breaks dotted along the north and west coasts of the island. Mostly uncrowded waves however a boat transfer or a long paddle is required to all breaks. Worth the effort.

Haápiti - A large exposed reef passage providing long barelling lefts with good exposure to south /south west swell. Relatively consistent.

Atiha - A 20 minute paddle or short boat trip. Provides both left and right hand waves just to the south of Haápiti. A long fun wave with plenty of sections.

Cooks Bay - A very long fast left and right. Get out early in the morning to beat the prevailing winds.Works best with North / North West swell.

Temae - A right hand wave that rolls around the north east cape of Moorea near the airport. Can be dangerous and inconsistent. Experienced surfers only.

Opunohu Right - A smaller right hander at the passage of Opunohu Bay close to The Intercontinental Moorea.

Other Activities

A feature of the hotel is the full service Helene Spa, which provides pampering hair and body treatments. All the treatments and massage therapies are based on fresh local plants, flowers and fruits. Enjoy a fresh flower bath, or river bath in the private gardens. The spa boasts a full selection of massages and therapies to keep you feeling much more than happy.

A main highlight of The Intercontinental is the Dolphin Quest Adventure Program. An interactive program led by Dolphin Quest’s marine mammal experts, you can experience a personal encounter with one of our ocean’s most amazing and intelligent creatures, or just enjoy their frollicking from the bridge over their enclosure or the beach that surrounds it.

There are 2 restaurants offering international and local cuisine, with a focus on fresh seafood. Located between lobby and pool, Motu Iti bar provides a relaxing atmosphere in which to savour views over the pool to the reef, and enjoy breathtaking sunsets.

Another amazing optional activity is to kayak or take a boat tour out to the baby stingrays that come to feed off anyone that will offer them fish!  It is an absolutely incredible experience to have these remarkable creatures swim right up to you and let you pat and play with them.

The hotel was amazing. We stayed in the huts right on the water. The reef was less than 25 feet from my room so I could step off the deck and snorkel at my leisure. We were able to snorkel around the entire hotel which took about an hour. I saw a huge sea turtle and tons of colorful reef fish. I can't say enough about this place and the accommodations. It was a dream come true. Spacious, luxurious, great view of the ocean.
