Addiction is owned, operated, and skippered by surfers for surfers. The luxurious 24-metre (80ft) high-speed catamaran and their experienced crew will take you on the surfing adventure of a lifetime. With over 15 years of combined experience in West Sumatra, Addiction crew are there to get you into the best possible waves on every trip.
MV Addiction is capable of 28 knots and that means more surf time. If you wake up in the morning and the swell has dropped their crew can have you on a new wave picking up the swell from a different break by the time you have finished your breakfast.
24 metres long (80ft), 8 metres across the beam and approx 100 gross tons means Addiction is amongst the 3 largest vessels in the Mentawais. There are 5 guest cabins each with a double bed and single bunk, a large gourmet galley, dinner seating for 12 and a saloon/lounge area to die for. There are also 2 large outdoor lounge and dining areas to just kick back and watch the surf or enjoy dinner as the sun goes down.
Addiction is a commercially constructed catamaran and has all of the safety features that go with it. The hulls are set up as watertight bulkhead compartments that offer maximum protection in the unlikely event of hull breach. The engine rooms are fitted with air cut off switches and a CO2 fire suppression system. The safety of passengers and crew are all the more important because of the remote areas in which they operate.
Nothing offers comfort like a large catamaran. No need for gyro controlled stabilizers here because they use the best stabilizing system around, 2 hulls and an 8 meter beam. Whether flying along at 20 knots+ or just sitting at anchor, Addiction will be the smoothest ride you ever get.
The captain & the crew:
Addiction is captained by owner/operator Eric Foraker. He attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy; his plan was to “ship out” until he saved enough to buy his own boat. After working on tugboats for a while and being frustrated with the surf on the US East Coast, he moved to California where he would work and surf every day. There he worked on long range fishing charters, whale watching, and tour boats. After a year living in California he came out to Padang and found a job as captain on Strictly Business. He worked on Strictly for 3 years and loved every minute of it. He realized he really enjoyed showing people all his favourite places and reaping the rewards of seeing all the guys so stoked on the experience. After seeing so many memorable scenes and having so many awesome experiences, he and his team look forward to trying to recreate them with the passengers.
Addiction’s chief mate, Geni, has over 5 years experience working in the Mentawais. He has worked with Eric for all 3 years on Strictly. Geni knows all the systems on the boat and is the captain's “right-hand man” in the wheelhouse. He also is a pro at positioning the dinghy in the channel for the perfect video or photo. This is because Geni is also the photographer. He provides a very cost-effective service that will give you 100s of photos of your surf adventure of a lifetime.
Tony the chef is experienced in all types of western food and Asian-fusion type cuisine. It is a guarantee that his meals will be healthy and fulfilling. Anybody who does a surf trip on Addiction comes off RAVING about the food.
The rest of their crew work very hard to ensure that your trip is a pleasant and hassle-free experience that will be remembered for the good people as well as the great surf.

Addiction trips can be from 12 to 16 nights, with 11 to 15 days of surfing. Most trips are booked on a full group basis only. Groups can discuss their surfing preferences with the skipper, who will plan an itinerary that matches their wishes to the prevailing conditions.
- Padang airport transfers, ground and surfboard handling.
- 12 nights fully air-conditioned accommodation.
- 3 gourmet meals per day + snacks and fruits.
- Bottled water, hot drinks, juices, soft drinks.
- Use of all MV Addiction onboard equipment and amenities.
Extra charges apply for onboard beers, sat-phone, souvenirs, ding repair, video and photo service, etc, so bring some spare cash.
Mentawai Tax not included - approx US$3 per surfer per day.
Northern Sumatra trips are subject to a US$3000 fuel surcharge.

- Price is based on a group of 10 persons travelling. If you have a larger group, this is possible for up to 12 guests for US$3000 per extra person. MV Addiction can also extend charters by up to 2 nights for US$3000 per extra night.
- Telo fuel surcharge is US$3000.
- Prices listed in the schedule above are per-person prices in AUD and are subject to foreign exchange fluctuations.
- Mentawai Surf Tax of US$3 per person per day is not included in the prices and is due when final payment is made. This tax may change at short notice so it is chargeable at the rate that applies at the time.
