With a combined 35 years travel experience, the two directors Jamie Gray and Rhonda Burton, have “been there and done that, and are still doing it today.” They also have a combined experience of 21 years working in the travel & tourism industry so they know how to get you the best deal for your surf adventure. After many successful years in Hospitality/Tourism, Jamie followed his passion of surfing to create “The Perfect Wave Travel Co”. He joined forces with Rhonda, whom after many years at Flight Centre Ltd has achieved a number of consulting and accounting awards. When 10 intrepid surfers, who are getting close to qualifying for their seniors cards, thought it was time to rejuvenate the soul and hit the waves the common view was to hit the Mentawis. In the quest to stay young, but being realistic enough to acknowledge that the number of cutbacks done per trip equate to what we most kids are doing on a single wave, we chose the MV Midas as our craft of choice to chase these waves. Why? Boat speed and comfort – it was fast enough to explore numerous breaks when the wind, tide and the crowds became a factor and comfortable enough to savour the joy of a great days surf.
Throw in the bonus that the crew are sensational, food is great, the Bintang is always icy cold, the Skipper knows where the best waves are and that everyone has a focus of making it the best trip possible then you cannot fail to have the trip of a lifetime. The MV Midas did that and more and we have already booked again for the next 2 years as we challenge the theory that it only gets better next time around.
Our first trip produced great waves with great friends and watching some of the footage again the other day I couldn’t help but notice the smiles all the boys had on their faces – mission accomplished as we all had the grins we had as kids, the stories get better and the tube ride is still achievable. Life without the thrill of surfing pristine, challenging and perfect waves just can’t be contemplated so if you feel the need for rejuvenation then I recommend you organise your own trip of a lifetime on the MV Midas and let the Perfect Wave Team, especially Rhonda, plan it for you.

Everything went really well, from the pick-ups and transfers through to the nice little swell running while we were at Hudhuran Fushi. We were more than happy at Kandooma, but Hudhuran Fushi really blew us away. It is such a beautiful place and the overwater villas were amazing. Truly a memorable experience.

I had a very good time for someone travelling to Bali and Sumbawa for the first time. Accomodation was great and food was really great too. Indonesia is really a surfing heaven, and is easy going in most parts too. I would be keen to go back as its so cheap over there! The Perfect Wave had everything organised for me so all transfers were taken care of, all I had to do was work on surfing better!

The booking and organising of the trip by the Perfect Wave team, in particular Rhonda, was excellent. The customer service was great, with nothing being a problem, and all contingencies covered eg. extra baggage allowance for boards etc. This efficient organisation led to a trouble free trip, with all flights, transfers, etc going smmothly.

I just wanted to write a quick note to let you know how impressed I was by the service provided by Gina. She went way out of her way to help us book our trip, swapping/reshuffling flights/schedules many times to try work out the best trip for us, to enable us to stay at Novotel (which was hard as they are mostly closed for renovations), Heaven on the Planet as well as 3 nights in Bali. She was so patient with us not being flexible at all with dates, as we only had that 2 week window we could take leave on.
She saved us flying to Bali each way, by suggesting we fly direct from Lombok on Garuda, something I would never have thought of, this also saved us money on flights compared to going with Virgin.
She was always cheerful when I spoke to her, even though many times I rung her with difficult things ie changes to schedules etc. My husband was also very impressed when he spoke to her and she explained how the surf guides worked, where the waves were, etc., she had a lot of knowledge on all of this.
I guess this is why we always keep coming back to The Perfect Wave. We went once with World Surfaris, but found you guys provide a far better service than them, hence we have booked many trips with you.
We look forward to booking many more trips with The Perfect Wave/Gina as you don't find service like that often these days!
