Villa Tranquil, Balian is a luxury accommodation villa located at one of Bali’s more secluded quality surfing spots. The villa is located minutes from the surf break and has amazing 360 degree views to the ocean, palm tree fields, sacred river and distant mountains.
The Surf
Balian is a river mouth surf break which breaks over large river stones and submerged reef. There are 3 main waves - 2 rights and one big left. The left and right forming off each peak as it comes in. Take your choice. There is also a right at the river mouth. There is always a good channel and current to get you out and around on the main left. The right handers often have the better form with some tubing and hot dog sections.
The waves can break from 300 to 500 metres out depending on the swell size. The bigger the swell the further out it breaks. Waves are best between 3 ft up to 10 ft. Average length of wave is between 100 to 200 metres. There is a large surfing area with no crowds and friendly locals. It is suitable for intermediates and above and best from March to December. Some of the most consistent surf in Bali – when it’s not working anywhere else in Bali – it will be here!
25 minutes down the road is another surf break at the village of Medewi. It is a left with good form breaking over river stone rock bottom. Length of the ride can vary between 50 to 150 metres depending on the wave. Best ridden between 3 to 6 ft with an incoming tide.
Balian is a small village on the west coast of Bali. It is 50 kms or 1.5hours drive from Denpasar and about 25 minutes before Medawi. The drive from Denpasar takes you past Tanah Lot, through the large city of Tabanan, and smaller villages including Bajera then onto Lalanglinggah where Balian is located. You will see beautiful countryside, flowing rivers and Balinese villages and lifestyle along the way.
According to the local Hindu villagers, the river Balian is very sacred. The word “balian” means white magic or positive energy. It is said that the river Balian has the power to remove black magic or negative energy. The perfect place to wind down, meditate, relax and rejuvenate.
The Accommodation:
The villa is two stories with 3 guest rooms. It has been architecturally designed to capture the best of Balinese tropical living, western comfort and the amazing ocean and palm trees and mountain views.
The villa itself is built on a slight hill and elevated from the ocean. The walk to the beach is only minutes down the small road. Individual rooms are available for rental as well as the whole villa.
Each guest room has its own entrance and keys, large modern en-suite bathroom with electric hot water, air conditioning, TV and DVD player, writing desk, bed linen, bath and pool towels.
Garden guest room: Separate from the house. King size bed with double doors opening to the pool plus views to the palm trees and mountains.
Downstairs guest room: Two single beds with views to the pool, palm trees and mountains, full bath in bathroom.
Upstairs guest room: King size bed with amazing views to the ocean and to the palm trees and mountains, full bath in bathroom.
Both the bottom and top floors have open living areas with lounges and table/chairs. Both levels have amazing views of the ocean and/or surrounding fields and mountains. Even when it is raining, you can still relax and enjoy the view from these living areas.
Kitchen facilities include fridge with ice-maker, kettle, stove with oven and cooking utensils. There is a laundry with automatic washing machine and iron.
The swimming pool is 7.5 metres by 4 metres and 2 metres deep. There is a shallow sun-baking water area ideal for cooling off or working on your suntan.
Complimentary DVD movies are provided for your enjoyment as well as coffee/tea and laundry detergent.
Rooms and the villa are cleaned daily.
Personal concierge service is available with the organising of babysitters, tours, car and driver, airport pick-up/delivery, car / bike rentals, shopping, room service, massage and beauty and other services as required.
Shopping & Local Facilities:
The village square is a 10 minute walk from the Villa Tranquil. It has a mini-supermarket with a range of toiletries, stationery and general household items including some clothing and footwear. Other shops include hardware, general stores, fresh local fruit and vegetables and a range of product shops that cater for the local villagers.
There are no tourist shops here.
Telephone:
You can purchase pre-paid charge cards for your mobile phone. Coverage is excellent. Internet access is limited however there is a slow dial-up line connection at the local village. There is currently no lap-top access. If required, you can access broadband internet in Legian (approx. 1 hour drive).
Medical:
There are local chemists, a Balinese doctor and a dentist. The closest hospital and emergency are at Tabanan (about 30 minutes drive).
Banking:
The closest ATM is in Bajera - 15 minutes drive. Closest money exchange is in Legian (approx. 1 hour drive)
Cafe's & Restaurants:
There are a small number of cafes / restaurants within walking distance from Villa Tranquil. The food from these places are well prepared and safe to eat. They offer excellent value for money making it affordable to eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Ayu’s Warung: Simple Indonesian and some western food. Basic outdoor setting with view of the ocean and fields. Very well priced with meals from US$3. Open early for breakfast to late.
Made’s Warung: Simple Indonesian and some western food. Basic tables and service right on the hill face overlooking the surf break. Very well priced with meals from US$3. Open early for breakfast and lunch and closed for dinner.
Warung Lelita: It's on the beach and overlooks the ocean. Large open covered area with pool table. Serves simple Indonesian and some western food. Very well priced with meals from US$3.
Tom’s Garden Cafe: Australian owned, this cafe provides tasteful Indonesian and western food. The decor is tropical surf style set in lush gardens, overlooking the ocean. Good prices and a great place to relax and dine. They also provide special outdoor BBQ nights with fresh local fish on the menu. Meals from US$4. Open early for breakfast to late.
A 10 minute walk from Villa Tranquil, is the Naga boutique restaurant at the Gajah Minah Resort. It has exquisite marble and wood decor overlooking the rice paddies and ocean. The owner is French and cuisine is first rate with organic food and home made delicacies. Open early for breakfast to late. Meals from US$8
The village square also has authentic Indonesian home cooking outlets / mobile food carts.
Activities:
Walks
Balian is ideal for walking and taking in the natural beauty. Explore the river and the coast, the natural caves, the serpent rock and the cliff top trails as well as the local village. Guided walks are provided by the local Balinese.
