This beautiful resort is protected in a small jungle filled cove where you can dive into warm blue water from the incredible white sandy beach right in front.
When firing, nearby Frigates Reef is a perfect, hollow, world class left hander you can surf all day, high or low tide. The prevailing wind is an offshore tradewind and it gets swell nearly every day of the year and so is hardly ever unrideable.
You can sleep comfortably & cheaply in a twelve-bed dormitory with shared facilities or in your own private bure. You'll enjoy buffet meals of cooked breakfast and delicious dinner and have lunch on the boat at the reef. There are plenty of freshly caught fish dishes, chicken and lamb curries, fresh vegetables, sandwiches, fruit, cereals, juices, snacks, and some other beverages.
There is plenty to do for non - surfing partners……..Swim, laze in the hammocks, scuba dive, fish for your dinner, wander the island, discover other beautiful beaches and the breathtaking views of Frigates Reef and the Beqa lagoon.
You will be met at Nadi airport by one of their friendly team for the 2.5 hour transfer down the coast. A stop at Sigatoka with its colourful market and friendly locals is a popular experience. There may even be a chance for a surf on the way if the flight arrival time has coincided with favourable tides and winds. You pass right by Hideaway Rights and the driver can stop and wait for you to surf if the tide is high and wind is offshore. After completing the van drive at Deuba Wharf, Pacific Harbour, you are transferred across the lagoon to the island.
A short boat ride from the resort takes you to Frigates Reef just south of Frigates Pass. The reef is similar in size to a football field. Swell can come from the Southwest, South, and Southeast providing rideable waves nearly every day of the year. It is an extremely clean wave even when the tradewind is a stronger breeze because the wave face is protected on the low tide by the exposed reef. At 3 to 6 feet the wave can swing in close to the main reef or swing wide depending on swell direction and size, offering three surf breaks in one. The resort's 'surfer guides' can familiarise you with where to sit for the best waves.
The most consistent waves come from the Southern Hemisphere winter climate in May to November, however, Frigates gets some of its biggest, most powerful waves from December through April, from cyclones originating near northern Northern Australia, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and the Coral Sea. |
